Its 2018, time for the new year, new me all-time famous cliché.
Well, it is a new year, that’s true, but just like any other day, nothing much,
nothing new. Human beings have been meant to believe so.
I purposefully blame
the people who developed the calendar. I have nothing against them, honestly.
But the human generation have always been put at crossroads when it comes to
the manipulation of the mind. Well, that could be an endless discussion, so am
out.
Back to the new year frenzy. A lot transpired. . . A lot.
Celebrations were all over the world, people laughed, some got drunk, some
danced through the night, some had family re-unions, exchanged gifts, shared
stories, wrote new year resolutions, basically, everybody had their own way of
celebrating the new year. For some other people in various parts of the world,
it was business as usual. Either someone was at work meeting deadlines, or
either found themselves in awkward situations, maybe there was nothing to
celebrate, nothing at all. You see, the way the world is set up, we are all of
different races, religion, personal beliefs and affiliations. But that
notwithstanding, we are human beings. In my Christian religion, (that I would
talk about in my next blog) I was brought up to believe that we are created in
the image of God. The only thing I have never known is, what race God belongs
to. But that is not important. We have to celebrate our differences in
diversity and what makes us human beings.
As at now, I believe the dust has settled and most people
are back to business, doing what they have to do. The human race is always
poised for survival, and that is what keeps the world moving, back home, we
term it as matters of the stomach. Life is set up in such ways that people
would do anything to survive. Basically, the struggle is to see the following
day. We all know of someone or rather a friend who is or has done unthinkable
things to survive, maybe it could be us, or even our relatives, but that is not
to say we are saints and they are sinners. No!
They have just been caught up in the vicious circle of life,
the never-ending circle. I may be judgmental, we all have been judgmental
towards such kind of people, but none of us has stepped into their shoes. Well,
this year, I guess we should all mind our businesses. The life we have is ‘short’
as most people term it. Me thinks, we have enough life to do what we have to
do. If our life ends, or if it’s a loved one, we have very little control about
it, I guess it’s just destiny, because we are all on the same path, the vicious
circle. This is the year where changes have to be made, sacrifices too and a
lot more. Basically, every new year comes with its own resolutions, but fact
is, towards the month of December, we often come to a realization that the more
things change, the more they remain the same.
But as human beings, we all have an obligation, let us try
to create a better place for all mankind. I think that is the sole purpose of
life. This year, try and be the reason someone smiled. Try and be the reason
someone got a job, be a reason someone got promoted, be the reason, someone
walked out of the hospital bed with all bills cleared. Be the reason someone
did their end semester exams with fees cleared, just do something that will
impact on the life of someone else. Maybe you think that is too much to ask
for, maybe you think you don’t have enough money to handle such kind of
situations. Well, if that is too much to ask for, why don’t you start by saying
Hello to the person seated next to you in a bus or train, or even in the meeting
room or at the place of work. Happy New Year 2018!!!
